The VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged piston was developed for use in the KTM 250 EXC-F SIX Days from 2014 to 2023. Its forged aluminum design combines piston compression designed for racing with design details for stressed use in the engine.

Racing-oriented piston design

The shape and design of the piston crown supports a favorable flame front and is designed for the maximum permissible compression ratio. Reinforcements stiffen the piston structure and reduce piston crown deformation under full load. A surface treatment serves to reduce friction.

Execution of bolts, rings and securing

The short piston pin has a chamfer with a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating. A locking ring with a nose on the outside helps prevent twisting at high speeds. The extra-thin GNH piston ring made of gas nitrided steel is designed for increased wear resistance.
