The VERTEX GP Racer Choice forged piston is a forged aluminum piston with racing compression for the KTM 450 SX F in the full 2016-2022 model year range. The version is intended for 4T engines and combines a specifically developed piston geometry with design details for use in performance-oriented engines.

Function and construction

Vertex developed the Racer's Choice piston range with experience from the MX World Championship, placing particular emphasis on efficiency and reliability. The shape of the piston crown supports an optimized flame front and enables the maximum permissible compression ratio to be achieved.

• Reinforcements stiffen the piston structure and reduce piston crown deformation under full load.
• The surface treatment is designed to reduce friction.
• Short piston pin and chamfer with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating.
• Circlip with lug on the outside to prevent twisting at high speeds.
• Extra-thin GNH piston ring made of gas nitrided steel to increase wear resistance.
